Privacy Policy

Intelligent Weather ("the App," "we") is an independent hobby project by Phill Sieg. This policy describes what data the App collects, how it's used, and your choices.
What the App collects
Location data (optional).You can search for any city by name or tap a featured city; the App uses the resulting latitude and longitude to fetch weather data. The App requests access to your device's GPS only when you explicitly tap the "Use my location" button. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in iOS Settings.
Saved locations.Cities you explicitly save are stored locally on your device using iOS's AsyncStorage. They never leave your device.
API keys (optional). If you configure an AI provider API key in Settings (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), it is stored locally on your device only. It is sent only to the AI provider you select, and only when you initiate an AI conversation or request an Intelligence Brief.
Settings & preferences. Temperature unit, AI provider choice, and ntfy topic are stored locally on your device.
What the App does NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any personally identifiable information.
- We do not use analytics SDKs (no Google Analytics, Mixpanel, Segment, Firebase Analytics, Sentry, Crashlytics, etc.).
- We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- We do not sell or share any data for advertising purposes.
- We do not use third-party advertising networks.
How data is used
- Weather datafrom weather.sieglabs.com (our own server, which proxies Open-Meteo, NOAA, USGS, eBird, GBIF, RainViewer, and similar public data sources) is fetched anonymously: only the latitude/longitude you're viewing is sent.
- AI prompts(when you request a brief or chat) are sent to the provider you configured. See their privacy policy for how they handle requests. If you use the default "Ollama (server)" provider, your prompt is processed on our server and not persisted beyond the HTTP request.
Third-party services
The App relies on:
- weather.sieglabs.com — our own API, which proxies public data sources. Server logs are rotated after 30 days; no IP-to-session mapping is retained beyond that window.
- Your chosen AI provider — OpenAI, Anthropic, or Ollama. Prompts travel directly to them when you use the AI features. Review their policies.
Children
The App is rated 4+ and does not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will change when we do. Material changes will be surfaced in-app.
